Tyrannotitan was an enormous meat-eating dinosaur that lived in what is now Argentina during the Early Cretaceous period, roughly one hundred and twelve million years ago. The name Tyrannotitan combines the words tyrant and titan, and the species lives up to both - Tyrannotitan was a massive carcharodontosaurid theropod closely related to Giganotosaurus and Mapusaurus, sharing the body plan of the great Cretaceous predators of South America. Adult Tyrannotitan reached lengths of around forty-two feet and weights of around six tonnes, making the species one of the largest known land carnivores in the history of life on earth. The long, narrow skull was lined with blade-like serrated teeth designed for slicing flesh from huge plant-eating dinosaurs, and the species walked on two powerful muscular hind legs while balancing with a long tail.
