The bilby is sometimes called the Australian Easter Bunny - the species' great soft rabbit-like ears have made it a charming alternative to the European Easter Bunny in modern Australian Easter tradition, with chocolate bilbies sold to raise funds for the species' conservation. The bilby is unmistakable - a small to medium-sized marsupial with very large rabbit-like ears that help dissipate heat and pick up the faintest sounds of insects in the soil, a long pointed snout, soft silky blue-grey fur, powerful clawed forelimbs built for digging, and a distinctive long black-and-white tipped tail.
