The Ankylosaurus was a heavily armoured plant-eating dinosaur that lived at the very end of the age of the dinosaurs, around 68 to 66 million years ago in what is now North America. The Ankylosaurus was built like a living tank - its broad, low body was covered in thick bony plates and studs set into the skin, protecting it against the great predators of its time. Its most famous feature was the tail, which ended in a massive bony club; powered by a stiffened tail base, this club could be swung with tremendous force as a defensive weapon.
